Exciting year ahead for genetic testing

2016 was an exciting year for genetics, and an important one for Invitae.

Last year we provided genetic testing to more people than ever before, reduced our turnaround times, and expanded our test menu to over 1,100 genes. We also improved patient access to our testing by adding new insurance payers to secure coverage for more than 175 million patients in the US.

Several unique partnerships and a recent acquisition help us expand the Invitae Genome Network, which seeks to accelerate the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of hereditary disease. We wrapped up the year with Dr. Robert Nussbaum, our chief medical officer, speaking at a Washington Post conference called Chasing Cancer to talk about the importance genetics can play in everyone’s healthcare.

In 2017 it’s only going to get better. This year we have exciting milestones to look forward to, including:

  • Expanded test menu to include introduction of our exome
  • Continued access for patients to genetic information through contracts with insurance companies
  • More comprehensive understanding of inherited diseases through the permission-based sharing of genetic information and patient insights via our newly established genome network
  • A new, expanded laboratory to support our continued growth
